Winemakers notes.
A very cold winter saw a lot of snow and whilst the children and dog revelled in yet another round of home days with schools being shut (OK, I admit I enjoyed the sledging too), the pruning had to take a back seat until the snow melted and I could see the vines again.
March, April and May were very warm and dry, but unfortunately the Pinots suffered with poor fruit set due to rain over the flowering period and we lost over half the potential crop of red grapes. The silver lining was the epic Chardonnay harvest, brought in between 6th and 16th October to create our gold medal winning Blanc de Blancs.
